Alan Shearer has some stagnant Premier League claims for Southampton's last five Premier League departures from the likes of Aaron Ramsdale to Romeo Lavia.
Southampton's finest Premier League sale Virgil Van Dijk had the Saints taking the Community Shield trophy for granted, but then Nathaniel Clyne did what he does best nowadays. The top-flight has always been a sweating stage for the Saints but all those testing phases are now putting nicer things for former players.
How many more can travel the miles to the dream Premier League land, either titles, cup collections or even craft better relegation anecdotes along the way?
Well, Saints icon Alan Shearer is one wise personality when it comes to English football. In a report from The Sun(citing Betfair), Shearer's season opinions have revolved around past Southampton players who were in the good books of St. Mary's.
Let's go through them, but before that, I want to be clear that their collective progress isn't sparking positivity.
Shearer hints at no Premier League winners but one relegated performer
Aaron Ramsdale
Despite belonging to a different generation than Shearer, Ramsdale has now appeared for both Southampton and Newcastle. As such, the 27-year-old wasn't in for a bad Premier League forecast.
In fairness, it didn't but a growth isn't projected either and his and Tino Livramento's Newcastle stands at the same fifth position. Not bad, but the ex-Saints duo will hope to go deeper in the Champions League instead.
Kyle Walker-Peters
Him and the celebrated Southampton ace James Ward-Prowse have found their winning formula in preseason. Introducing Mateus Fernandes to West Ham squad can be on their summer schedule but Shearer believes them to play a chasing game with relegation.
Don't be sad Saints, they have been cleared to sit strongly in the first division.
Lesley Ugochukwu
Far and away, the English striker's most sorrowful season preview involves Lesley Ugochukwu. One red mark has been inked in his Premier League account, and Shearer has warned him to watch out for two.
Does it need telling that as the twentieth best in a table of twenty sides? Atleast, not to Southampton viewers, hands down.
Charly Alcaraz
Past performances are the foundation for future assumptions, this can well be Shearer's thought processes. Unlike the Frenchman, Alcaraz's previous English assignment had a decent grade, above the dreaded seventeenth spot.
Likewise, the international minutes pursuing Argentine is remaining thirteenth as before, stress-free from the noises and updates about the division's dropping trio.
Romeo Lavia
Another former midfield titan is lined up for an exact fourth place finish. It could have been interpreted as awesome, but the best in the world should aim to be the undisputed annual best in England as well.
