Sheffield United starter's rumoured exit has Saints hoping for transfer

Sheffield United's emerging star Sydie Peck is gaining admiration from West Ham which can indirectly be beneficial to Southampton's midfield.

Last year, Southampton endured a series of disappointing transfers with both Sheffield clubs and that can't be sugarcoated anymore. Notably, most of those blows came with Sheffield Wednesday who kept turning a deaf ear to all re-signing approaches for Shea Charles and Danny Rohl.

Still, the intriguing part is the Saints didn't end as unrewarded there as in the only Ben Brereton Diaz negotiation with Wednesday's city rivals United.

Now, Diaz isn't a regular goalscorer but playing him as a wide midfielder week in and week out when he was finding his scoring boots can't be excused. Hence, the Blades deserve a significant portion of the blame there and they should aim to make amends for that.

Well, I am not suggesting they give Diaz another short-term chance, rather, completing a transfer deal with West Ham would have the Southampton fanbase generously thanking them.

Peck's transfer will diminish Southampton's Charles fears

According to a report from the Guardian, Sheffield United's prized asset Sydie Peck is drawing praise from West Ham and a transfer in the coming weeks is a strong possibility.

If you didn't know, Peck is a midfielder by trade which is a similar area where West Ham needs Saints star Shea Charles, too. And assuming they don't want a full-fledged rebuild in the middle of the park, it'll be a toss up between Peck or Charles.

Further, if Southampton doesn't loosen their say on Charles, West Ham will be forced to either swoop in for Peck or search elsewhere. Overall, ensuring that Charles dons the Saints shirt in the immediate future at least, until the club springs up to the English top flight.

Yet, a lot rests on Sheffield's green light to part ways with Peck, which Southampton fans will hope not to be an issue going forward.
