Southampton have removed Djeidi Gassama from their summer transfer plans a long way back but their fellow top-six chasing counterpart, Blackburn Rovers may opt for a concrete transfer move.
The Championship standings are yet to shuffle even once on the basis of points but Southampton can take Birmingham City as an opponent who will wish to remain on the better side of a top-six spot. Hopefully, the Saints are one of them too, but the remaining four are quite unclear on paper.
Still, that won't deny the teams finishing narrowly below the desired sixth place from stretching their ambitions further. With respect to last season, Blackburn Rovers were that unlucky side but at the same time, they are a few tweaks away from extending their Championship season beyond the 46-game mark.
Interestingly, one of them could be a once Saints target whom they are unlikely to even table a bid for. It's Sheffield Wednesday's wide attacker Djeidi Gassama who looked set to be Danny Rohl's priority summer business if he made the switch to St. Mary's.
Gassama joins Antman on Rovers summer shortlist
Now, that possibility is off the charts and the above duo's immediate reunion opportunity is set to be dismissed as well should Rovers get hold of the 21-year-old according to journalist Alan Nixon.
If this is good to tempt Gassama's transfer opinion, then there's another forgotten Southampton link that may be music to his ears.
It's no secret that every frontman craves to have an elite playmaker by his side and who better than ex-Saints and current Blackburn target Oliver Antman.
Hardly, a shadow of doubt could be cast on their respective potentials but again, they are future prospects at present. So, Southampton would be wise to continue with their ongoing transfer gameplan instead of deviating towards them at the eleventh hour.
