Southampton has reached an agreement for 23-year-old versatile attacker Albert Grønbaek. The move will be a loan transfer, with an option for the Saints to sign him permanently.

In an overall poor season for Southampton so far, their problems upfront have been grave. The Saints have been able to find the net just 15 times, having one of the worst figures in the top 5 leagues.

Add to that, the departure of Maxwel Cornet and Tyler Dibling's injury, the Saints are in dire need of attacking options.

Thankfully, the club is close to adding an exciting attacker to their roster.

Southampton agree deal to sign 23-year-old Danish wide attacker

As per reports from Foot Mercato, Southampton has reached an agreement with Stade Rennes for 23-year-old Albert Grønbaek.

Expectedly, Danish prodigy Grønbaek will join the Saints initially on a loan deal. Further, Southampton can complete his permanent move with a buy option, if they want.

Previously, Grønbaek had moved from Bodo to Rennes this season only. However, the huge jump from the Norweigan League to Ligue 1 didn't go as planned for him.

Understandably, he asked for an exit and is now close to joining the Saints on loan.

Now, while signing Grønbaek seems like a risky option, the Danish footballer might be the perfect fit for Southampton.

Recently, against Nottingham Forest, the Saints had the game gone in the first half itself. Initially, Southampton couldn't curate chances, after which even attacker Sulemana's substitution didn't go well.

That's where the role of Grønbaek comes in.

The 23-year-old could play as a wide attacker, or even upfront. Backed by his stats at Bodo, Grønbaek certainly knows how to build chances, making him a go-to option against quality defenses.

Further, with Armstrong's string of poor shows, Grønbaek could directly start upfront, giving fresh legs and a new dimension to the struggling Southampton attack.

Overall, Southampton's circumstances needed an option like Albert Grønbaek. Let's hope for a brilliant Premier League stint for the 23-year-old.
