The summer transfer window has only just concluded but the transfer rumour mill loves throwing out a random bit of gossip, even when the window has banged shut.
Indeed, in the Premier League, reports have begun to emerge that Erling Haaland could be on the move away from Manchester City, with Barcelona interested.
Focusing in on Southampton, away from the glitz and glamour of this potential Camp Nou switch, there hasn't been lots of talk of rumours in all fairness.
Although, earlier this month, there was some tentative talk linking Tonda Eckert and Co. with a mid-season move for Lech Poznan defender, Wojciech Mońka.
Now, there's a fresh rumour to add to the pile, as Southampton contemplate a shock foray for this keen attacker.
Southampton tipped to make surprise January transfer
According to a new report from TEAMTalk, Southampton are now in a surprise race to win the services of AEK Athens playmaker, Dimitris Kaloskamis, with the Greece U21 international wanting to actively leave Athens.
He has allegedly put in a request to leave the reigning Super League Greece champions behind, with the 21-year-old not best pleased with his lack of senior minutes at his boyhood club.
This is where the Saints come into the picture, as they're noted as keeping a close eye on developments as they potentially plot a January swoop.
West Bromwich Albion are also keen on snapping up Kaloskamis, with the report going as far as to suggest that a bid around the £3m region for the 21-year-old could be enough for his boyhood employers to part ways.
Levante in La Liga are also interested, so it will not be a straightforward pursuit for Eckert's men.
But, if they were to win his services, ahead of their Championship rival and their Spanish counterpart, what would he offer the Saints’ ranks?

The 6-foot-1 youngster will not be a well-known name to followers of the beautiful game on English shores, having only ever called Greece during his fledgling career to date.
He has impressed in his native homeland, however, with three goals and three assists coming his way on the books of Marko Nikolić's side, despite only being handed a limited 22 appearances over two senior campaigns.
Before showing spurts of his quality playing for the Yellow-Blacks, Kaloskamis was also scoring goals for fun in the Panathinaikos youth fold, with 12 goals put away confidently for the U18s, and the B Team, at the illustrious Greens.
It was during his youth days at Panathinaikos that he would be noted as one of the best young talents in world football by the Guardian, with the Next Generation List in 2022 - which looked at the 60 standout youngsters catching the eye across the globe at the time - featuring his name.
In this same list, the likes of Desire Doue feature, long before he made the first team cut at Paris Saint Germain.
In 2025, too, when sealing a move across Athens to AEK, he would be noted as "one of the biggest talents in the country" by Greek media, with Eckert's focus on improving youth players and utilising them in his first team back at St. Mary's surely one major factor behind this shock move being contemplated.
Capable of playing as a number ten, or as a winger down either flank, as well, Kaloskamis would further give the Saints more depth in the attacking areas, if they were successful with their advances.
At the moment, this transfer summary from TEAMTalk should likely be taken with major reservations, as it could just be speculative talk.
But, with Eckert loving raw and exciting youngsters, as evidenced in Cameron Bragg and Divin Mubama being in and around his first team ranks, a move for Kaloskamis shouldn't be ruled out completely.
Amazingly, if a deal were to happen, this would be the first time in the club's history that a Greek player would call the South Coast home.
