Southampton were put off from signing former PSG graduate Jonathan Ikone on the final days of the transfer market. Yet, Tom Fellows' arrival mustn't necessitate frustrating reactions from the fanbase.
Can't say about everyone, but transferred Saint Yukinari Sugawara caught some new club action while August was closing. With quite a thrill-filled one too, as his Werder Bremen unit evened out a six-goal night.
The same number which Sugawara's distant admirers PSG put on their own during the exact weekend. But did we expect something lesser from the Parisians? Atleast I didn't and many Saints fans wouldn't have as well.
The French heavyweights have gathered a vast talent hub in recent decades, and as such, their reserve players can be found on the dream list of multiple clubs. Even Southampton wanted to have a former PSG prospect who couldn't make a good career in the capital city.
Saints will hope Fellows doesn't lead them to ever rethink Ikone miss
We are mentioning Jonathan Ikone about whom Saints Extra pointed to journalist Niccolo Ceccarini's interesting insight: "Fiorentina winger Jonathan Ikone (27) is set to join Paris FC, who saw off competition from Southampton & Rizespor"
A key takeaway is Ikone preferred to return to his boyhood club's city, though moving to their Ligue 1 neighbors. In many scenarios, former players try not to link up with their local rivals and although Saints were outdone on the bidding part, Ikone may have held out for another French club.
He has won a major league honour with Lille, and coincidentally he was accompanied by St. Mary's favourite Jose Fonte in that campaign.
However, the wide attacker hasn't tarnished his top-flight consistency so a Paris FC switch will hopefully benefit him, and the Saints have also collected Tom Fellows to rely on the flanks and as such, they should fare outstandingly well.
