Southampton fans don’t want this fringe player to be sold as next destination named

Tonda Eckert showed off the strength of his full squad during Southampton's last match in the Championship.

Indeed, Divin Mubama would come on and score within 11 minutes of his home debut, as he drilled a fierce shot past Victor Johansson to make it 2-1 to the Saints against Stoke City, with the game entering its nail-biting final stages.

Moreover, he was able to bring on the likes of Lewis Dobbin, who was a £9m addition this summer, and he offered the South Coast giants a lot of energy, when the Potters had begun to tire.

The German will be content with what he's got at his disposal, and with the likes of Keven Schlotterbeck and James Ward-Prowse just entering the ranks, his team is only getting stronger by the minute.

He will want to trim down some of the numbers, still, before the dramatic transfer window slams shut on the 1st of September, and Southampton have already got to work getting rid of some fringe players.

Southampton busy with sales

It is yet to be officially confirmed, but several reports suggest that Gavin Bazunu is about to end his nightmare spell on the South Coast by relocating to Bolton Wanderers.

It has been a long time coming for Bazunu, who was loaned out to Stoke last season, with Daniel Peretz Eckert's preferred number one stopper, as the Irishman prays a fresh start is what he needs to breathe life back into his stuttering career.

While the ex-Manchester City 'keeper's move hasn't been finalised just yet, Sheffield United have announced that they've snapped up Ben Brereton Diaz on loan, with the Chilean another example of a player who will desperately want to get back to his best, after a dire time so far at St. Mary's, where he has failed to ever score on the South Coast.

He couldn't even score in the EFL Cup right at the start of the season against Colchester United, with this goalless showing against the lower league U's proving to be one of his final outings this season before moving.

There's also the matter of solving Yukinari Sugawara's future in the last few days of the chaotic window, with Sassuolo from Serie A noted as one interested party.

While there won't be much sadness attached to the Japanese full-back leaving at the final hour, it appears that Southampton supporters would like for this other fringe player to stay, as a potential next destination is named for the attacker in question.

Saints fans don't want this fringe player to be sold

Samuel Edozie also offered Southampton more verve in the latter stages of their 3-1 win over Stoke.

He even won the penalty that Ryan Manning coolly put away in stoppage time right at the end of the win, just by driving forward with his electric pace.

Despite playing an important role late on against Mark Robins' men, Edozie could still be sold on before the September cut-off, with reports suggesting that Lecce have put forward a £1.7m bid for the ex-Manchester City winger's services.

It's further noted that Edozie would be open to uprooting to Italy, but the amount on the table - at this current point in time - is not high enough for Southampton to seriously consider a sale.

Southampton fans, responding to this transfer interest, seemed to be against the idea of the reserve attacker being offloaded, with one supporter - over on X - even suggesting that Edozie is "much better than Fellows/Matsuki" with both the ex-West Bromwich Albion attacker, and his 23-year-old counterpart, strruggling to spark into life so far this season.

Another fan noted that he has looked "promising at times" so it could be worthwhile keeping him around.

Edozie was also one of the first players in Eckert's camp to resoundingly fire back on social media after the Saints' playoff explusion came to light, with the Lecce-linked forward stating, with a clear fire in his belly, that he'd "be ready" for the 2026/27 season to prove himself.

It would be disappointing to see him be moved on after he appeared to be so revved up, with it hanging in the balance at the moment as to whether the second string attacker will stay or be sold.
