Southampton's Premier League goal-machine speechless about embarrassing streak

Southampton forward Paul Onuachu admits he is at a loss of words to describe this new St. Mary's defeat against Wolves.

The recent St. Mary's matchday marked Southampton's 5th consecutive loss in this Premier League campaign. Sounds shameful right? But it isn't that much as relegation rivals Leicester enjoy the same fate.

Now, what's rather distressing is when you take a quick look at the Saints' home record this season.

Know why? Wolves 2-1 blow to Southampton is their 9th straight-up defeat at the St. Mary's. In fact, the Saints' last home points track back to early November last year.

Well, realizing this, the struggles of most of Southampton's players aren't difficult to understand. But, alarmingly, the situation has worsened to the extent that even the club's best performers feel clueless now.

Take, for instance, forward Paul Onuachu's example. Despite being a late bloomer, Onuachu has been the most improved Southampton player lately. Sadly, he has been the unluckiest Saints player as well.

You might remember the Nigerian's first club goal which came in a losing cause. Well, yesterday wasn't any different as his inaugural St. Mary's goal was faded by another home loss.

Onuachu dumbstruck despite brilliant individual show

Yet, what struck contrast was Onuachu's post-game reaction as he stood baffled, unlike his cheerful usual sense.

As quoted by the Daily Echo, Onuachu felt speechless describing the defeat, saying: "It’s difficult to explain this loss because we’re playing on our home ground and had the feeling we were going to beat Wolves."

Well, honestly, Onuachu's verdict feels powered by boss Juric's pre-game comments. While the side couldn't back them, this Wolves game would be a positive individual memory for Onuachu.

Now, given Southampton's situation, it would be wrong to say Paul Onuachu's display made a decisive difference. Yet, if the forward continues like this, his performances will surely have him recognized as a hero in the Saints' forgettable campaign.
