Francis Benali believes Danny Rohl's experience is limited to the Championship. Benali remains hesitant about whether Rohl can deliver up to the expectations of the Southampton job.
Honestly, has any club had it as chaotically unique as Southampton right now? Well, one can be poor on and off the field, and miserable in transfer calls, but now being at the aim of almost every pundit, that's rare.
Now, the Saints' relationship with critics Paul Merson and Don Goodman needs no introduction. But, lately, even the club icons haven't spared them.
Notably, while it was icon Alan Shearer earlier, announcing the Saints' relegation which recently turned true, this time it's Francis Benali with an intriguing claim.
And yes, it's on none other than the club's managerial saga.
Now, admit it or not, among all the managers linked with Southampton, Danny Rohl enjoys the support of the St. Mary's faithful the most. In fact, some might've even started dreaming of a Saints era under the Sheffield boss.
But, coming back to reality, has the reality shaped up this way? Definitely not. Instead, lately, the Saints found themselves more distanced from the boss than ever.
Notably, as if that wasn't enough, comes Benali's spicy comments on Rohl. Speaking on Southampton’s managerial rumours, Benali voiced clear hesitation on his appointment.
Benali alarms Southampton before Danny Rohl's appointment
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Benali said of Rohl: "Although he has done a good job at Sheffield Wednesday, I am slightly hesitant about him."
Sure, that’s a splash of cold water on the St. Mary’s faithful’s dream, but the club icon ain't wrong too. In fact, it's not been a new concern either, his lack of promotion success or top-flight exposure dims the shine on an otherwise impressive profile for a Saints job.
Know what's alarming further? Every time Southampton has gone against Benali's wish recently, they have suffered. Recall, for instance, Juric's defensive rigidness that led to a crucial loss.
Now, that's what makes the Saints' situation even more tricky. What should the club do? Go with Rohl against Benali's claim or play it safe to avoid any suffering.
