Before you know it, the January transfer window will be back open.
Indeed, we aren't far off October now, and when Championship action returns, we'll already be a number of days into the late Autumn month, so the January window isn't very far away at all.
For Southampton, some deals could well occur during this mid-season sale, with reports suggesting that Tonda Eckert's men are still locked into a transfer battle for this defensive target.
Southampton still chasing after this wanted defender
As per a new report by transfer outlet OnTheMinute, who broke the Saints' initial interest more clubs are now being named as being in the hunt for Lech Poznan centre-back Wojciech Mońka in January.
Indeed, the first report named Sunderland as the additional English party interested in the Poznan-born 19-year-old.
On top of the Black Cats, Brighton and Hove Albion have also had their name added to the list of rumoured suitors from the Premier League, alongside Bundesliga powerhouse Eintracht Frankfurt joining the fray, meaning this will be a very tough tussle to win on the end of the Championship promotion hopefuls.
No bid has been made for Mońka has been made, as of yet, but the Saints are closely monitoring the Poznan number 27, ahead of potentially going in for him during the mid-season window.
Winning the Ekstraklasa defender of the season award last campaign, as Niels Frederiksen's men lifted the top-flight title, it's clear he is a very promising and exciting talent.
With Southampton looking somewhat shaky at the back this season, too, adding in some fresh blood could be needed, as Mońka possibly swaps the Poznań Stadium for St. Mary's.
The Saints could do with more options at the back
The South Coast giants are yet to keep a clean sheet in the Championship this season, which is a surprise with Daniel Peretz in-between the sticks.
Last campaign, when he was a loanee on the books of Eckert and Co. from Bayern Munich, he was a clean sheet machine, with seven shutouts registered from just 20 games.
Now, he is without a single one from eight league encounters, as two goals were shipped to Wrexham last time out.
He has impressed, as seven saves combined when facing Bristol City and Wrexham has ensured goals have been kept out of his net, but he's not superhuman.
Keven Schlotterbeck's unexpectedly shaky afternoon was the Saints' downfall during the 2-1 loss in Wales, as he wasn't strong enough when battling with Kieffer Moore for the hosts' opener, before he inexplicably scored an own goal right at the death.
He has been phenomenal, otherwise, since he left Augsburg behind in the latter stages of the summer window, but bringing in the 19-year-old recruit from Poland would give Eckert more options, away from having to rely on the German to keep playing non-stop.
Adding in Mońka would also mean Schlotterbeck is kept on his toes, and it could well up the 29-year-old's performance levels, knowing that the new signing has played in the Europa Conference League recently, which is a sign of his calibre.
Eckert might even fancy slotting in the two-time Ekstraklasa champion next to Schlotterbeck, as Nathan Wood was rather unconvincing in the defeat at the Racecourse Ground.
Of course, the worry here is that Mońka arriving would shove Zach Abbott even further down the pecking order, rendering the youngster's loan from Nottingham Forest rather pointless.
But, if Southampton can win a top-flight-experienced defender mid-way through the campaign for a reasonable price, they would be fools to miss out on such a deal, with Abbott's happiness not that much of a pressing concern, as he's not the Saints' outright player.
Eckert and Co. do face a tricky battle to tempt Mońka to the South Coast, with the German top division surely more tempting, but he would be a welcome addition if secured.
