Southampton fans want Simon Rusk to be replaced with a new manager immediately after the final Arsenal fixture.
Honestly, it's been quite a relieving time for Southampton fans under interim boss Simon Rusk. While the Saints might not have been at their best under him, the manager has at least delivered the results they hoped for.
Still, as was pre-decided, Rusk's tenure in the office is to come to an end by the time the season finishes. But what's surprising is that while extremely thankful to the boss, Saints fans want his era to end soon.
While this expectation may feel a bit harsh for what Rusk has done, fans aren't wrong to demand a permanent coach with proven Championship credentials.
Southampton fans demand a new manager after Arsenal clash
Just when you think Saints fans couldn’t be more specific, they’ve even marked the dates in their calendar to welcome the new boss. It's May 25th, the day they finish their Premier League campaign.
Recently, speaking to the Football League World, Fan pundit Martin Sanders represented all Saints fans, saying: “Going into next season, they need an appointment by the time the final whistle's gone on the Premier League campaign. It gives the fans a lift, it would be massive for us.”
Now, the fans' urgency speaks for itself as they want the club to kick-start their Championship preparations as soon as possible. After all, already behind Ipswich in the promotion race, a quick decision feels a no-brainer here.
Yet, for the Southampton board, which has failed in most of the recent managerial calls, the priority will be to make the correct decision now.
Ultimately, this fan demand should act as a check on the board's decision-making. But timing alone won't be enough, if the club can back their appointment, whether it is done now or later, nothing more can be asked for.
