Lee Hendrie believes Southampton will be keen on signing out-of-form Patrick Bamford ahead of next season.
Ask any Premier League fan, when was the last time he turned up to a game, especially for a Southampton player. Well, its response is enough to make all the Saints embarrassed.
This is because it's been quite a long time since the club has seen such proven quality players representing St. Mary's. At least, in the club's forward line. And so their goal-scarce this season.
In fact, know an intriguing Saints stat? Ever since Danny Ings left after the 20/21 season, no club forward has ever crossed the double mark in Top Flight again.
Well, be honest now, doesn't that call for a need for a proven forward signing for Southampton's next campaign? But don't fret Saints fans as the club's well-wisher, pundit Lee Hendrie, is back with a solution.
It's a transfer nudge for former Premier League standout and Leeds icon Patrick Bamford.
As per Football League World, Hendrie detailed on Bamford's transfer interest, saying: "I think there's loads of teams in the Championship that will be looking at Patrick Bamford. I would've said that teams that are maybe coming out of the Premier League, top-half definitely."
Southampton proposed risky Bamford signing this summer
Now, that's more than a hint for Southampton to consider Bamford's profile to resolve their attacking woes.
Sure, expecting Bamford to repeat his 17-goal Premier League season is ambitious. But even at his current level, he offers experience, physicality, and a spark this Saints squad is badly missing.
Still, and it’s a big still, bringing Bamford in wouldn’t be an easy decision. At 31, he’s far from the typical young, high-ceiling profile Southampton usually chase. Would the club really pivot from potential to pedigree?
That’s the risk. But sometimes, the right risk writes a redemption story. And for the Saints, this one might just be worth trying on.
