Well, the sky looks to be the limit for Southampton, right now.

At one point, this season, the Saints were merely dreaming of entering the playoffs.

Now, they're occupying that final playoff position in the Championship in style, after thrashing one of their promotion rivals in Wrexham 5-1, on their own patch.

Through to an FA Cup semi-final, as well, where they'll face the might of Manchester City at Wembley, the campaign is turning into one to seriously remember, for those of a South Coast persuasion.

Southampton, in their current rich vein of form, could be striving for a whole lot more, than just sneaking into sixth position in the constantly entertaining division.

Southampton could strive for automatic promotion

After all, Tonda Eckert's inspired side just don't know when they're beaten at the moment.

Indeed, the super confident Saints are deep in an unbeaten run of 13 games in the league, with no hangover from their FA Cup heroics present, when easing past Phil Parkinson's men 5-1 in a statement win.

With a game in hand over their Welsh challengers, too, it now looks like Southampton is in the driver's seat when it comes to clinching a playoff space.

They might well even be tempted to look further up the congested division, into those automatic promotion spaces, with Eckert's men only six points off Kieran McKenna's Ipswich Town, who are clinging onto second precariously.

With the way the Championship is, nobody should write off Southampton making a dramatic surge between now and May arriving, as the Saints' rollercoaster season has potentially the best ending possible.

Cyle Larin - who bagged his blistering fourth goal in Saints colours against Wrexham since joining in January - certainly believes his team can make up this points gap, when speaking to the media after the convincing 5-1 win in Wales.

Larin's confident comments after Wrexham win

The Canadian forward has slotted in perfectly to Eckert's set-up ever since switching Mallorca for England, with the well-travelled striker in the right place, at the right time, again to power home Southampton's emphatic third against the rattled Red Dragons.

He would love to add a promotion to the Premier League to his varied CV, having previously called some elite leagues - such as the La Liga - his home.

Larin has backed his team to keep picking up the wins to make these dreams a reality, with the Ontario-born gem declaring his "love" for playing for his loan employers, alongside urging his teammates to keep putting in polished displays to climb the ultra competitive division.

He said, when speaking to the Daily Echo: "Each guy knew what was at stake in this game - we know what is at stake in each game. We want to keep climbing and climbing up the table.

"It's down to the hard work we put in. Yes, we scored five, but over the whole game, everyone was working hard, offensively and defensively.

"I love it. This is a great club with great guys. Everyone is working really well together. We just have to keep doing that, and we will keep climbing up."

These are certainly the words of someone who has taken to Southampton instantly, with the feel-good mood at St. Mary's no doubt infectious.

Just imagine if Southampton had an outside chance of entering into those automatic promotion positions come the end of the season.

It really would be a blockbuster ending to a memorable campaign, and a conclusion that cannot be disregarded as pipedream talk.
