Southampton touted to land free agent Tottenham Hotspurs boss played regularly

Saints are weighing up a free move for a defender who instilled confidence among new Tottenham Hotspurs boss Thomas Frank for years.

There is barely room for any counter debates that great managers often combine their smart footballing brains and their talent searching ability to become top-tier tacticians. Hence, delivering instructions to roughly the same batch of players can help them acquire a better understanding of how their playing identity should be.

Saints and many avid Championship fans know that Tottenham Hotspurs boss Thomas Frank also belongs to this category of coaches who mould their comfort zones into their strengths. Outside that inner circle, he has set out on an optimistic note at Spurs, which is made more commendable when factoring in no additions from his former club Brentford.

If given a chance, then Frank won't run dry on candidates but Ben Mee will be a hard to pass one for him. The 35-year-old only saw the Premier League journey with Frank, but managed to be an indispensable player for the latter.

Mee can help trim down Southampton's mis-timings at the back

According to a report from Sportsboom, Southampton also fancy Mee as someone to provide them with a reliable defensive layer.

But St. Mary's, that's a place where a centre-back need isn't adding up, and I can sense the puzzled looks on the Saints faces. So, Mee can only be a framework-specific target as Will Still's young defenders have had some hiccup moments.

They then don't just disalign from their positions, instead, take the whole formation crumbling faster than sandcastles ever do. Otherwise, we wouldn't have seen penalties and own goals coming into the fray at a side that has defenders deciding final outcomes, too.

All things weighed up, Mee can offer some calmness to Still when the ball is one good strike away from souring Southampton's day.
