Southampton don't usually have a problem finding the back of the net when playing at St. Mary's this season.

In the Championship so far, they've scored 16 goals at home from only six outings.

Remarkably, when they're away from home comforts, they've only scored eight times from the same amount of clashes.

Last time out, though, when playing at their reliable stronghold, they did surprisingly come unstuck with a 0-0 draw against Bolton Wanderers, as the Saints uncharacteristically squandered several chances.

Hopefully, this stalemate with the Trotters got this wastefulness out of their system, and they can get back to beating teams at home with ease.

A good omen in their favour is the fact they did beat Queens Park Rangers 5-0 at home last campaign, who they face on the South Coast later today.

For this QPR ace's sake, he will be keeping his fingers crossed another poor day in front of goal plagues the promotion hopefuls, as he attempts to frustrate his ex-employers.

The QPR ace hoping for another Bolton blank

Ronnie Edwards was in the heart of the R's defence that gave up five goals at St. Mary's last season.

This was Edwards' first clash against his former side since he left for Loftus Road, with the two-time England U21 international never quite making the first team grade on the South Coast.

He would make only 16 appearances for the Saints before moving on, with Edwards finding himself on the periphery of far too many Southampton squads, as Russell Martin's men entered the Premier League and then tumbled out of it.

He has since become a dependable regular at the R's, so he will be desperate to pick up a clean sheet on his latest visit to his old stomping ground, to prove he is an accomplished Championship defender, and not a ropey centre-back who gives up five goals frequently.

He has been fantastic this season

The one-time Peterborough United centre-back is yet to miss a single minute of action in the second tier this season for Julien Stephan's team.

He has been a force to be reckoned with in October so far, with a mighty 18 duels won when facing tough opponents such as West Ham United and Swansea City near the very top of the second tier pile.

QPR didn't crumble when facing these formidable opponents, as they beat the Welsh giants 5-0, who occupy second spot, and they managed to collect a determined 1-1 draw against the Hammers, despite their usual free-flowing nature, having scored a league best 32 goals at the time of writing.

Stephan has gone out of his way to praise Edwards, with the ex-Rennes boss simply labelling the QPR number five as a "brilliant player."

Edwards won't be fearful of a repeat of that 5-0 mauling on his return, therefore, with an 89% pass accuracy average this season seeing him remain calm and unflustered, no matter who is next up on the fixture list.

In another reality, the assured 23-year-old might well have had a future at St. Mary's, as his composure with the ball at his feet, matched with his willigness to get stuck in, makes him stand out as a Keven Schlotterbeck-style presence.

He just ended up being a victim of his circumstances, as he proved to be an ill fit in a Premier League squad, and when Eckert was at the helm, he had Taylor Harwood-Bellis way out in front of him in the pecking order.

Now, he is excelling at Loftus Road, and while there isn't that much bad blood really, as he has shrugged off the disappointment of his Saints stay rather effortlessly, he would love to put a spanner in Southampton's promotion charge with another clean sheet throwing them off stride.
