Southampton put all the talk of Spygate 2.0 to one side and beat Middlesbrough 2-1 on Tuesday night to reach another Championship playoff final.

Of course, most of the post-match talk has centred on the fact that the Saints could be removed from the playoffs altogether, depending on the severity of their Spygate punishment.

But, for the moment, Tonda Eckert's men will be basking in the glory of reaching the playoff final against Hull City, with the club now just one match away from Premier League promotion.

Several Saints players stood out at St Mary's who will fancy their chances of immediately acclimatising to the top-flight, if their dreams were to come true.

The Southampton players ready for the Premier League challenge

Southampton fans will be far more optimistic about their beloved team's chances of giving survival a go, if they were to reach the promised land, as there seems to be a new lease of life coursing through the Saints' veins, contrasted with the dire team that finished rock bottom of the pile at the close of the miserable 2024/25 campaign.

Indeed, figures such as Finn Azaz and Leo Scienza will be desperate to succeed in the Premier League, after breakout seasons on the South Coast, with a stunning 17 goals between them during the regular campaign.

Moreover, having never quite made the cut at Manchester City, Shea Charles will be hoping he can finally make a name for himself in the top-flight with his current employers, after scoring an outrageous winner against Boro on Tuesday night to leave Hellberg's men feeling aggrieved.

There are also a few faces who had to taste that bitter blow of relegation last season who will want to show to the daunting division that they're no longer weathered by that storm, with both Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Ryan Manning putting in exemplary defensive performances all throughout the season.

There is one Saints individual who hasn't been named yet who could be deemed Premier League calibre already, despite never stepping foot into the punishing league across his fledgling playing days.

The standout ace who is very much Premier League quality

Yet, before this season kicked off, Caspar Jander had never been thrown into a game in the Championship before, and the German has proved himself to be a very effective performer in such a tough division, whenever he's been chucked into contests by Eckert.

He didn't let the side down at all during this fiercely contested showdown with Boro either, after his end to the regular season saw him become a consistent starter under Eckert.

Completing 91% of his passes on the closing day against Preston North End, alongside winning 11 duels and tackles, this same energetic, tenacious, and classy version of Jander came to the forefront against the visitors from Teesside.

Only giving up possession a slim 12 times, from a colossal 101 touches of the ball, to show off a star who wouldn't look out of place dictating play in the Premier League, Jander also held his nerve in the tackles and duels department again, despite cutting an unassuming figure, with a sublime 18 tackles and duels won.

Bundesliga sides such as Stuttgart have allegedly been circling for the Munster-born battler, so it's clear he has top-flight suitors watching on.

He will surely want to stick it on the South Coast, though, if promotion is triumphantly won, as all the signs are pointing in the direction of Jander being a Premier League-calibre talent, as he has a calmness and slickness on the ball, which is further complemented by a grittiness to retrieve the ball and battle hard for his team's cause.
