Playing for your nation is undoubtedly one of the biggest honours of any footballer's career.

Of course, playing for your domestic side is a privilege, as only a select few ever make it as a pro.

But, to be able to say that you wore your national team colours, goes way beyond club allegiances.

Several Southampton players will be able to say they lined up for their nations with pride during the international break, with Cameron Bragg, Cyle Larin, Daniel Peretz and Shea Charles just a few names who will be kept busy over the break, playing for the likes of Scotland U21s and Northern Ireland.

Finn Azaz and Ryan Manning come as a Saints duo when lining up for Heimir Hallgrímsson's Republic of Ireland, with the electric Southampton number ten well deserving of his moment in the spotlight.

With ten goals and seven assists next to his name in all competitions this season, the former Middlesbrough attacking midfielder will be in the running to pick up his 13th cap for his nation, when the Republic of Ireland face Czech Republic in a crucial World Cup playoff showdown.

Both Azaz and Manning will hope their cool performances for Southampton as of late, as the Saints bid to immediately return to the Premier League, stand them in good stead for the tough match-up at the Fortuna Arena.

The 6-foot-1 playmaker has even commented on the "winning mentality" under Tonda Eckert hopefully following him to Prague, as Hallgrímsson's men attempt to reach their first World Cup since 2002.

Azaz striving for more success with Ireland

In 2002, Azaz would have only been two years of age, as his nation were dumped out of the World Cup, at the hands of Spain.

More than two decades on, he could be the hero that sends them back to this prestigious stage.

Speaking in the build-up to the game with the Czech Republic, Azaz didn't seem startled by the situation whatsoever, as the 25-year-old prepares to go into this one-off tie with the same "winning mentality" the Saints have in abundance.

He said, when speaking to the Daily Echo: ""I will go to represent Ireland with the same mentality and consistency that I've had this season [at Saints].

I will go there with the same winning mentality to try and help my country reach the World Cup. I want everyone fit and firing, in the best form and the best shape."

Indeed, Southampton - at this point in the long Championship season - look to be the team to topple in the ongoing playoff race, with Eckert's men now 14 games unbeaten, after comfortably overcoming Oxford United 2-0.

Therefore, if Ireland go into their match with Czech Republic with the same fearlessness coursing through their veins, the World Cup might well be in reach.

Azaz has also spoken about not letting any outside noise impact you, as he remains tunnel-visioned on doing his utmost to get Ireland to the World Cup, out in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

He concluded: "If you start thinking 'What if this happens, what if that happens?' you can get caught up in that, and it can leak into your performances.

[You don't need] those added thoughts and pressure. I've got my mentality and strategy for how I am going to be able to perform and be able to adapt.

I can't let anything affect that. I can't allow myself to start thinking 'what if we beat this team'.

I'm always thinking about how I can prepare for the next game, then the rest will follow."

This interview really was a fascinating insight into how level-headed Azaz is remaining, despite all the whirlwind successes coming his way, as he potentially jets off to even more faraway destinations with his treasured country.
