This Southampton youngster is gaining rave reviews at his new loan club

Southampton have loaned out a lot of deadwood this summer.

Ben Brereton Diaz, Cameron Archer, and Yukinara Sugawara have all sealed late loan moves away from Tonda Eckert's side, with the likelihood that all three players will be permanently shifted on, when the 2026/27 season concludes.

Away from these reserve players being moved on temporarily, with a view to get rid of them for good down the line, the likes of Joshua Quarshie have been shifted out to Sturm Graz with the hope he can mature and impress, before making strides in the first team back at St. Mary's.

There is also the ongoing tale of Jay Robinson, who featured semi regularly last season in the first team picture on the South Coast, but is now on the books of AC Monza for the campaign, linking back up with ex-Southampton boss Ivan Juric in the process.

Why Robinson was moved out on loan

Robinson is undoubtedly a very exciting young talent at Southampton.

He has a superb 25 goal contributions next to his name playing for the U21s, and last season, he managed to grab two goals and one assist in the senior picture, which included this delightful strike hitting the back of the net versus Queens Park Rangers.

Unfortunately, after this terrific solo strike sent the Saints away masses into raptures at Loftus Road, Robinson's first-team minutes at his boyhood employers would start to deplete.

He would face recurring injury issues that meant he would only line up for Eckert and Co. in the Championship for a mere 73 minutes in 2026.

In the end, a loan deal was deemed the next best step for the teenage winger, with Southampton also adding in Lewis Dobbin for £9m as another option down Robinson's usual left flank.

The move would suit all parties, with Robinson sent out to a challenging environment in Serie A to see if he can cut it, after a couple of injury-disrupted months on home soil.

Safe to say, he is already standing out for plenty of positive reasons in Lombardy, with the 5-foot-9 attacker gaining some rave reviews for his direct and slick performances.

Robinson couldn't have had it any harder when you look over what team he had to face off against on his Serie A debut.

Indeed, he would be thrust into the action at the San Siro with only 11 minutes remaining of normal time against the might of Inter Milan, as Monza eventually ran out as dismal 4-1 losers.

Thankfully, it was in the Coppa Italia last time out against Torino where Robinson really came into his own, leading to several White and Reds fans waxing lyrical about him on social media, after the 1-0 victory.

From his electric 73 minute spell in Turin, he would complete four successful dribbles as a thorn in the home side's defence all evening long.

Alongside twisting and turning defenders for fun, Robinson would clatter the crossbar with one wonderful curled effort, as the brand-new Monza number 46 looked right at home in Italy during the Cup contest.

The passionate Monza fanbase have fallen head over heels for the Saints academy product, based on some social media posts, with one in love supporter noting that Robinson is a "gem" and a "lovely little player" to watch.

Another avid follower of Italian football would declare his performance in Turin as being "so positive" on the ball as well.

Juric would also weigh in with his own complimentary thoughts, noting that he had a "great game" and that he believes the Serie A underdogs can "bring out the best in him.”

Hopefully, Robinson continues to impress in his new European surroundings, even if Southampton fans aren't big fans of Juric from his relegation season on the South Coast.

If he does, he should come back full to the brim with confidence to make it at his boyhood side.

There will be a mild temptation, too, to cut the loan deal short if he continues to play like he did against Torino, with the Saints having a recent track record of doing just this, when bringing back James Bree last season, which worked a treat.

At the moment, though, Robinson will just be taking it game by game at the Stadio Brianteo, ready for whatever adventures come his way.
