Talk has died down somewhat surrounding Leo Scienza leaving Southampton behind this summer.

All that seems to be discussed at the moment, involving outgoings from the Saints first-team, is Shea Charles, with Leeds United still persistent in their chase for the ex-Manchester City academy product.

Southampton will be bracing themselves for some interest in their star Brazilian attacker as well, you imagine, as he set the Championship alight last season during his debut season on English soil.

Indeed, Scienza would collect a hefty seven goals and ten assists as one of Tonda Eckert's most reliable attacking sparks, with the electric number 13 a must-have on the German's starting lineup, heading into the new Championship season, if he stays put.

Eckert could be about to win himself another Scienza-style attacker in the transfer department, if this move goes through shortly...

Southampton in hunt for new attacker

Reports suggest that Southampton is firmly in the hunt for Aston Villa sensation Lewis Dobbin, with both Wolverhampton Wanderers, and their Spygate foes Middlesbrough, also keen on a deal for the 23-year-old winger.

It had been speculated that Sheffield United were another Championship outfit taking a look at the Stoke-on-Trent-born attacker, but they look to have been priced out, with Villa wanting a bid of £5m or above to consider selling their asset.

It remains to be seen whether the South Coast side would be willing to cough up those riches, but with both Ben Brereton Diaz and Gavin Bazunu looking likely to leave, there will be a steady cash injection into their bank.

Of course, the worry here will be that Dobbin is being potentially purchased to be a successor to Scienza, as the one-time Everton youngster can play down either channel, and as a second striker, much like the number 13.

He is primarily a left-sided forward presence, too, like his South American counterpart.

Whatever does take place, snapping up Dobbin should be viewed as an exciting capture, as he is very similar to how Scienza operates, away from just their preferences on the pitch.

He could be another Scienza gem

While he had a sensational 2025/26 season on the books of Paul Heckingbottom's men, it hasn't been all smooth sailing for Dobbin in the senior game.

Before bagging ten goals and collecting eight assists last season, which puts him ahead of Scienza by one with their respective season tallies, the ex-England U19 international had severely struggled in the demanding EFL, collecting just five senior goals.

He won't dwell on this, though, as he looks ahead to the future, ready to slam home more goals for the Saints if a move goes through.

Scienza had a similar breakout moment last campaign, too, as he arrived to England after only sticking home four Bundesliga goals for Heidenheim, representing a risky purchase. Now, he's a hot commodity, being looked at by a raft of teams, like Dobbin.

The similarities keep coming, as both players in question love driving forward and scoring sumputous strikes, with Dobbin once noted as being an "explosive" talent to try and contain by his ex-Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup.

They also both love a mazy dart forward, with the ex-Preston number 33 ending his Championship season, against the Saints no less, with four dribbles magically pulled off.

In the same match, Scienza pulled off three successful dribbles, but four shots would evade the back of the net.

It could prove to be a pickle to get both attackers in the same XI, but that would be a headache Eckert would happily have, as next season's team begins to take shape.
