Adam Lallana surely ranks among the very best Southampton have produced in the modern age.

Homegrown, having entered the St. Mary's academy ranks in 2000, Lallana would go on to have an extremely esteemed career at his boyhood side, over a mammoth nine seasons.

He might be more known to the average football fan for his Premier League-winning heroics at Liverpool, as he transformed into a top-level talent for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp.

But, to those with associations to the South Coast, he is very fondly remembered for his bumper tally of 60 goals and 47 assists for the Saints, which saw him climb the league rankings from being a youngster in League One, to a Premier League-established star.

In particular, Lallana hit his goalscoring peak, arguably, when Southampton were battling to go up to the top-flight in 2011, with a mighty 11 goals and ten assists falling into his back pocket come the close of the 2011/12 campaign, which culminated in promotion being gloriously achieved.

Nigel Adkins would wax lyrical at the time, noting that his blistering attacker was a "class act" to work with, with Tonda Eckert equally full to the brim with compliments, himself, about this midfield powerhouse who is displaying shades of Lallana at his frightening EFL peak.

Eckert's very own Lallana

Eckert, when everyone is fully fit in his Southampton attacking ranks, has an embarrassment of riches to choose from.

Indeed, the Saints still managed to pick up a slim 1-0 win over Norwich City, without Leo Scienza at his disposal, who has a stunning six goals and eight assists in league action, when not resigned to the treatment room.

The goalscoring hero against the Canaries who had to step up to the mark in the Brazilian's absence was Finn Azaz, who is arguably the German's modern-day answer to the revered Lallana.

The parallels are there after all, with the 25-year-old now up to ten goals for the season - after his pivotal Norwich strike - which is only one behind Lallana's promotion-winning output.

With six assists under his belt, too, in league action, he is very much giving the Saints U21 manager a run for his money.

Equally adept at playing down the flanks, like the 37-year-old before him, Azaz will hope the similarities don't end here.

Indeed, Azaz would love to mirror Lallana even more, with the St Alban's-born icon once just an EFL dweller, before breaking into the Premier League and staying there.

For as much as Azaz is known to the wider EFL fan, via his 49 goals playing in the second tier, third tier and League Two, he is yet to announce himself to a Premier League audience.

He did call Aston Villa home briefly, but he was never afforded the luxury of senior Premier League minutes, as he was discarded out on loan to the lower depths of the EFL.

Now, Azaz has an opportunity to finally launch his top-flight career with the Saints, as his golden goal contributions potentially seal promotion, just like the much-loved Lallana managed all those years ago.

Lallana never looked back from that point on.

Will the same well-established Premier League career come the Irishman's way?
