Southampton remain none the wiser as to what the immediate future holds for Tonda Eckert in the dug-out.

It's been a week now since Eckert had his hearing with the FA about his involvement with Spygate, with a speedy verdict right after the hearing an ideal set of circumstances.

Instead, all the drama continues to rage on, as we edge ever closer to Championship action returning on the 11th of October against Portsmouth, which will be a feisty showdown, anyway, away from the never-ending Spygate saga.

Eckert hasn't been all doom and gloom, despite all this talk continuing to weigh heavy on his shoulders, with the German very complimentary of some unsung heroes at St. Mary's, before the international break kicked in.

The unsung heroes praised by Eckert

There is a lot of good going on at Southampton at his current point in time, despite the dark cloud of Spygate remaining in the air.

Indeed, the Saints have picked up four wins in Championship action so far this season, with 15 goals scored at home consistently entertaining the St. Mary's masses.

Moreover, Eckert has been able to throw his regular first teamers into the jam-packed second tier fixture schedule without any major injury issues arising.

Caspar Jander hasn't featured so far this season, but this was an injury known about in pre-season, with the 33-year-old having a full squad to pick from, pretty much, across the opening eight games of the Championship campaign.

Off the back of having such great availability at his fingertips, Eckert has gone out of his way to praise the club's medical staff.

When speaking with the Daily Echo just before the gap in fixtures, the German stated, when commenting on the fitness of his group: "That goes down to the work that the medical and performance department puts into the players.

"I think that we are very well staffed. I think that we have excellent people in the building who make sure that the boys can recover."

The hope will be that the players keep these levels up, as the gruelling 46-game marathon that is the Championship season can be an arduous exercise to get through.

Fingers crossed it stays this way

Indeed, it should be expected that an injury or two will pop up.

While the medical staff are being praised currently, they're not superhuman behind the scenes, with niggles, and fatigue, par for the course.

Fingers will remain crossed that any injuries that do pop up are manageable, as losing a player of Cyle Larin's breathtaking quality to a serious layoff would be an almighty blow to stomach.

There isn't much competition for his main striker spot, with seven goals put away for fun already this season making him stand out as one of the Championship's most potent finishers.

But, overplaying him could result in an unwanted knock slapping the Saints in the face, even if the medical staff are hailed so highly.

For the time being, though, away from focusing on doomsday hypotheticals, the medical staff do deserve a lot of credit for no long-term injuries bothering the promotion chasers.

It will just be a concern that all this open praise could jinx Southampton down the line, with Larin playing friendly matches for Canada relentlessly potentially contributing to a disastrous stay in the treatment room.
