The Southampton fans have been in fine voice all season long.

Having been through the wringer earlier in the season when Will Still was in charge, no one can blame the Saints supporters right now for being a deafening wall of noise whenever their team does well.

The home masses made St. Mary's a hostile environment in the playoff second leg, when Kim Hellberg's Middlesbrough came to town, resulting in Shea Charles curling home a terrific winner to send the South Coast outfit to Wembley.

With the Spygate scandal still rumbling away, it isn't set in stone when the actual playoff final will occur.

But, when it is officially confirmed, hopefully Southampton haven't been kicked out for the competition altogether for their espionage antics, as Eckert believes his team's passionate supporters can get them over the line at the home of football to seal an instant promotion back to the Premier League.

Eckert's comments about the passionate Saints support vs Boro

From the minute the Boro coach arrived at St Mary's in the build-up to the match, the game had the feel of an intense playoff showdown.

During the game, too, the passionate Southampton fans never wavered in their loyal support of their team, with Eckert going out of his way to acknowledge the difference they made to proceedings, as the Saints fought back from an early setback to win 2-1.

He said, after the dust had settled on the dramatic victory: "It was a very special feeling having that welcome coming into the stadium.

"We go through the tunnel right into the dressing room, and I said to the staff, that is it so nice being back at home.

"It's a very different feeling, and you could feel in different moments of the game that the crowd carried us today. It was massive."

Often disregarded as a quiet fanbase in the Premier League, especially when relegation hit at the close of the 2024/25 season, it's nice to see the enthusiastic support recognized by Eckert as being a big help in the playoff final being reached.

The German will want the Saints fanbase to be as vocal when heading to Wembley, with the Southampton masses already pretty vocal at the home of football this season, when playing Manchester City in the FA Cup semi final.

Eckert needs Saints fans to be vocal again

At the time, everyone would've been cheering on the Championship side to pull off a win against Pep Guardiola's star-studded team, so when Finn Azaz curled home a late opener, the roar inside Wembley was deafening.

Neutrals watching on would have likely jumped for joy, as well, as the underdogs very nearly got the better of the serial winners.

Eckert will hope the Saints sections inside Wembley raise the decibel levels again during the approaching playoff final, as they have gone from being seen as a lower league darling to a villain due to the Spygate scandal surfacing.

With everyone plotting Southampton's downfall, this is where the Saints players will really need their army of followers to stand up and be counted.

Hull fans descending onto the capital will also be full of energy, as the Tigers gun for their first promotion up to the Premier League in a decade, with the occasion of a Championship playoff final set to be one to savour yet again.
