Lately, the list of top transfers that made Southampton regret has extended unimaginably. Well, we have a latest addition to it, ex-Saints flop Jordy Clasie who is now an Eredivisie hero.

You would admit this, in recent history, the best player Southampton's St Mary has witnessed is Virgil Van Dijk. Notably, the Dutchman got his big break with a 2015 Saints transfer, which became an illustrious career later.

But it was not that every Dutchman signed during 2015 turned glittery for Southampton. Take, for instance, Jordy Clasie's classic case.

If you remember, Clasie had joined Southampton both earlier and with a fancier welcome from the fans. Still, all that remains the St. Mary's faithful's memory of the midfielder is that of a failed signing.

Clearly, the stark differences between Van Dijk and Clasie's Southampton careers speak for themselves. But still, they share something important apart from nationality.

Know what? Fast forward to now, the Saints repent both of their transfers. While Van Dijk left the club as a hero itself, Clasie is now turning one in the Eredivisie.

Talking of the current season, Jordy Clasie is arguably one of the best in his role in the Dutch league. Playing for Alkmaar, the pivot has led his side brilliantly, both in the Eredivisie and the Europa League.

In fact, under the ex-Saints flop, the Dutch side is marching into the Europa quarters, eliminating Tottenham.

Boskamp's Clasie claims will surely sting Southampton fans

Now, that's something really impressive. Naturally, ex-Dutch boss Johan Boskamp's high praise for Clasie makes sense.

As quoted by the Sport Witness, Boskamp appreciated Clasie, saying: "I think Clasie is currently the best player in the Eredivisie. I think he plays really fantastically. He is the boss of the team on the field, you can see that in everything."

In a recent timeline marked by saddening events, this Clasie redemption is another one for the Saints fans.

Still, all isn't dark for Southampton. Jordy Clasie's comeback surely incites hope among the fans for his ex-teammate and current Southampton player Sugawara's improvement scope ahead.
