Wrexham's former standout defender Ben Tozer made a mocking claim about Will Still and Southampton, which will leave Southampton fans asking Still for an opening day masterclass.
In back-to-back days, Southampton heroes starring in Wrexham's second-division rebuild have gone from 50-50 rumours to now speculations which are closer to yielding nothing in reality. Naturally, the promotion specialists will harbour grudges against them as well as the Saints, because the build-up to their campaign is getting impacted.
So, it shouldn't come as a surprise to Southampton fans if the side, once waxing lyrical about their opening night meeting, started sounding sore. And the early picture suggests the jibes and mocks are underway, which were meant to be reserved for the Pompeys matchday.
To be very clear, Wrexham have opened the taunting scoresheet through their former player Ben Tozer. As quoted by The Wrexham Insider, Tozer said to RobRyanRed: "They have no stability, no security. So in the longevity of the manager, obviously the gaffer [Parkinson] has been here for four years. Theirs has been there for like four weeks or so."
Still can send a statement to Wrexham by outclassing Parkinson
Highlighting the difference in four years and four weeks can't simply be a coincidence, but that doesn't mean Saints will appear helpless juggling through their winning way against Wrexham. Sure, Still started the trailing way at Southampton when he would've hardly been over by the exciting coaching thoughts coming into his mind.
What happened next? The preseason wins are piling up which they should, and as for the defence, they haven't conceded another outfield goal ever since.
The real deal is that Still is getting the starting lineup to learn from their mistakes, and most importantly, to cover up costly errors made on the opposite end of the pitch. Hence, experience isn't always the only thing deciding results when you've got a squad made of Championship regulars coming up against a roster with a significant amount of second-tier first-timers.
Hopefully, Still does his talking on the pitch and caps off a massive win over Wrexham.
