Southampton and Hull City play out to 0-0 draw
By Chris Hughes
The Saints’ wait for a win extended to three games earlier today, as Claude Puel’s side held Hull City to a goalless draw.
After back-to-back losses against two of the league’s best teams, Southampton were desperate for three points against the Tigers, but it wasn’t to be.
For Hull it provides a vital point that sees them three above the relegation zone with 35 games played.
Marco Silva’s side have struggled away from home this season too, without a win away from the KCOM Stadium all year. It therefore seems like the Saints should’ve done better, having now only won two of their last eight at home.
The game’s most controversial incident saw Maya Yoshida win his side a penalty after some shirt pulling inside from the box from Alfred N’Diaye – however Dusan Tadic couldn’t convert from the spot.
It meant that Eldin Jakupovic saved a spot-kick for the second time this season, the most of any goalkeeper in the league this campaign.
Kamil Grosicki hit the post from a free-kick early on in a half that didn’t feature much action at either goal.
Southampton failed to register a shot in a disappointing opening period, only emphasizing how Puel’s players may of gone on their holidays early.

Sofiane Boufal had a good chance to break his goal duct early in the second half, but instead of shooting the winger opted to try and beat two defenders and was eventually dispossessed by Harry Maguire. The centre-back was arguably the game’s best player with a collective seven tackles and interceptions.
His defensive partner Michael Dawson had the chance to win it for his team late on, but the experienced centre-back missed a header with little time remaining.
Southampton’s lack of goals are echoed by Manolo Gabbiadini, with the Italian haven’t not scored in his three appearances since returning from injury.
Next up for the Saints is a game against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday May 7th. The Tigers meanwhile face a relegated Sunderland side on the Saturday.
