We need a striker like Anthony Modeste

Earlier this week German tabloid BILD suggested that a hold of Premier League clubs were in attendance when Cologne beat Werder Bremen 4-3 this past weekend. Among those were Southampton the player that warranted scouting was Anthony Modeste.

A striker who can score off scraps thanks to a good knack for finding the back of the net with one touch, the 29-year-old has scored 25 Bundesliga goals this season. He possesses a strong physical frame and can header the ball well.

All of that sounds like something like could’ve proved useful last night against the Gunners, especially as both the full-backs and the wingers continuously fired crosses into the box to no avail.

Ever since the Saints returned to the Premier League they’ve had a target man-style striker in their ranks, be it Rickie Lambert of Graziano Pelle. When things aren’t going well you could lump a ball into the box knowing either would’ve had a strong chance of winning a header and grabbing you a goal.

Signing a striker who can act a physical threat in the box needs to at the top of Southampton’s shopping list this summer.
