Exciting football may have made it’s grand return

Part of the reason for Claude Puel’s contact termination was due to the fact that Southampton were uninspiring under his playing style.

In comparison to Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman before him, the Frenchman set up to soak up the pressure whilst building up slowly.

Whilst this helped Saints to an eighth-placed finish and the EFL Cup final, it was less-than popular among the supporters – but that could now have changed.

Under Pellegrino Southampton were slick, attacking and possession-dominant. They remained strong at the back despite Virgil van Dijk’s absence.

There’s still working to be done but creating the chances that they said it’s only a matter of time before they begin banging in the goals again.
