Southampton sign former West Brom goalkeeper Jack Rose
By Chris Hughes
Southampton have today announced the signing of stopper Jack Rose, who most recently played for West Bromwich Albion.
22-year-old goalie Jack Rose has agreed to a one-year with Southampton, having recently been released by fellow Premier League side West Brom.
Rose never made a senior appearance for the Baggies, instead enjoying two shorts loan spells with Accrington Stanley and Crawley Town in the Football League respectively.
Standing at six-foot-three, Rose had been part of the West Brom set-up since he was a kid, signing a professional deal four years ago whilst at the tender age of 18.
However under Tony Pulis the towering stopper was never given a breakthrough, and was released six weeks ago.
Southampton have been busy on the goalkeeping front this summer, having initially loaned young ‘keeper Harry Lewis to Dundee United not long after tying him down to a new contract.
Following that, both Fraser Forster and Stuart Taylor were tied down to fresh contracts, with both drawing intense media coverage for different reasons.

Forster enjoyed arguably his least impressive season lat time out since joining from Celtic, yet has since become potentially the club’s highest earner. Taylor meanwhile had his contract announced through a hilarious mockery of recent transfer announcements, which went viral.
"“Everyone knows about the reputation Southampton have in bringing through young players and they give you opportunities. It makes it more real when you see the young players being given chances in the first-team so that’s one of my goals.” – Jack Rose on joining Southampton"
With Alex McCarthy also on his road to recovery alongside the aforementioned duo, it’s difficult to see where Rose fits in among Pellegrino’s plans this season.
However with Paulo Gazzaniga’s future under intense speculation, it could be argued that Rose has been brought in to potentially replacement the out-going Argentinian within the Southampton ranks.
