Goalkeeper and defenders

3. Arguably his worst performances of the season so far. The Saints stopper hasn’t been his old self for a while now and this game incapsulates that.
His distribution was once again very poor and he was ever so shaky throughout the whole game. Maybe a change in goal is what’s needed for the team and for Forster.
. Goalkeeper. Southampton. FRASER FORSTER

6.5. Another usual Bertrand performance. The link up play with the likes of Redmond and Boufal was exemplary at times and he really showed drive to make things happen in the final third. He did seem careless going into the latter stages of the second half but that was understood after what was a seemingly uninspiring performance and result for the Southampton team.. Left-back. Southampton. RYAN BERTRAND

6.5. Solid debut from the Netherlands international. He was very commanding and was a physical presence in the heart of the Southampton defence. Hoedt won aerial duels on many occasions and seemed a tough nut to crack. Along with Stephens, he marshaled Watford striker Andre Gray out of the game. He made no obvious error and seemed like a definite improvement to what we have currently at the club.. Centre-back. Southampton. WESLEY HOEDT

JACK STEPHENS. 6. The youngster didn’t really do anything wrong this game. Neither of the goals were his fault and his overall defensive game was sound. He was a tough tackler during the game and there were occasions where he was allowed some extra freedom and moved forward on occasions.
There were occasions where he did have a chance or two which he could’ve done a lot better with but he’s a centre back, not an attacker and we can’t rely on him to get the goals.
. Centre-back. Southampton

CEDRIC SOARES. 7.5. One of the standouts on the pitch for me. Every coming game the Portuguese international seems to get better and better and has become one of the Premier Leagues best fullbacks.
His defensive game all day was strong and prevailed on many occasions when he went face to face with Watford attackers.
. Right-back. Southampton
