Midfielders

Southampton. STEVEN DAVIS. 3.5. If you haven’t caught on yet, I believe the midfield lost us the game today and Davis was a pivotal reason in that. Mr Consistent seems to be getting on and he wasn’t great at all today. He was the weakest of the midfield and made constant mistakes whether with passing or receiving the ball.
His poor passing put us in grave danger many times today and he was run over by the Watford midfielders which absolutely controlled the game.
. Defensive-midfielder

Southampton. ORIOL ROMEU. 4.5. Maybe a controversial rating but to me, that has to be the worst performance the Spaniard has put in for Saints since he arrived on the south coast. He wasn’t his usual self today, with severely poor passing and didn’t seem to be as much of a rock as he’s used to being.. Defensive-midfielder

5. Not a good performance at all for the youngster which resulted in being subbed for Tadic at half time. He failed to make any impact on the game and with the competition we have in the midfield, he needs to take every chance he gets. His set-pieces were less than average and his overall game seemed very lethargic.. Attacking-midfielder. Southampton. JAMES WARD-PROWSE

5.5. Another game that Redmond seems to try his hardest but not a lot comes out it. His pace at times did seem to trouble the Watford defenders at times but he was poor. He’d run himself into a corner and seemed very greedy throughout. This game also exemplified how bad his final ball really is. With his crosses and passes seemingly wide of the mark most of the time.. Attacking-midfielder. Southampton. NATHAN REDMOND

4. Boufal had another fairly unimpressive performance. Once again his decision-making was poor and this was exemplified with an attack where he jinxed around three or four Watford defenders before spooning a shot high and wide when there was better options on the cards.. Attacking-midfielder. Southampton. SOFIANE BOUFAL
