Southampton: Oriol Romeu admits Saints aren’t happy with recent results
By Chris Hughes
After another less-than-perfect result at St. Mary’s, Oriol Romeu insists that the Southampton players aren’t impressed with their performances.
Having won just twice from nine games in all competitions so far this season, it’s been a stuttering start to management in England for Mauricio Pellegrino.
Five of Southampton’s seven league goals have come in two games, having fired blanks in four of their PL games so far this campaign.
At home the Saints have recorded just five points and face the task of meeting some of the league’s toughest teams before now and Christmas, making their 11th-placed standing in the table less-than impressive.
The Saints’ Player of the Season Oriol Romeu has commented on his side’s lack of solid form, insisting he and the team aren’t content with their lack of wins:
"“I wouldn’t call it worried but no one is happy,’ Romeu said. We’re not happy after not winning against Newcastle and losing other games at home.“We want to win and we want to be higher. We’ll keep doing our best to get wins because to be where we want to be we need to win more games.”"
Romeu has formed an impressive partnership in midfield with new signing Mario Lemina, with the duo being arguably the first two names on the teamsheet each weekend.

The Spaniard has taken more of a back-seat role in order to let the Gabonese international next to him have free roam of the pitch – a move that has drawn him less plaudits than in the season before under Claude Puel.
However, Romeu remains a key part of the Southampton team and has been talked about for a potential captain’s role by the supporters. His comments show his desire for the side to improve.
"“If we had the key we would find the solution but there’s so many things in football that are open and you think you can control it but suddenly a game is gone.“It’s about making sure when teams are coming here to defend we need to break them down better and score more and not let them counter attack.”"
Next up for the Saints is another home game – this time against West Bromwich Albion. Jay Rodriguez could start against his former side after five years of service as 10th faces 11th.
It’ll be interesting to see whether the 26-year-old Romeu’s comments will have an effect on the Saints, as they attempt to score two goals in consecutive games for the first time this season.
