Wesley Hoedt

The Dutch defender made his return to the starting XI for the first time since the loss to Manchester United, partnering Virgil van Dijk for the first time at the back.

The two Netherlands international’s played a solid game overall, despite Hoedt arguably having some fault in Glenn Murray’s headed goal.

The 23-year-old made three clearances and and further three interceptions, whilst also recording an 88-percent passing percentage – the best of any Southampton defender. Four of Hoedt’s nine long passes were on target too, as he continued to show an ability to be able to spray passes across the field from the back.

All Southampton supporters will be hoping to see Hoedt retain his spot in the starting XI next week as the Saints face Burnley.
