Ryan Bertrand

Again, another defender. I will admit that I am slightly clutching at straws on this one, but Bertrand was still one of our best players today. The 28-year-old put in more crosses than anyone else in the Saints line up, which is the most you can ask for from your left-back, in terms of offensive displays.

As a left-back, Bertrand also produced Southampton’s closest chance all game, when his free kick was cause for concern for ‘keeper Simon Mignolet as it went fractionally past his left-hand post.

The England full-back looks like another who wants out at some stage from Southampton. After consistently good performances for the last three seasons, its clear to understand why. Bertrand could be playing Champions League football and, arguably, should be. All we can ask for, is to see the level of performances we have come to know so well.
