It has been refreshing seeing fringe players take part and step up to the plate. With the busy Christmas schedule in-current progress, back-up players have given first team players a run for their money.

For one, this is a very good for Mauricio Pellegrino, having a selection headache sets a high mark for what establishes a player as first team. With players such Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Charlie Austin being the stand-out outcasts that have been formidable for the Saints of late.

Not to mention, Jack Stephens who was finally given another chance yesterday, played exceptionally well.

Southampton now have a range of choices for central midfield and defence. So as long all players are hungry for first team action, this not seeming like the case earlier in the season. The only real spots that look nailed on the team currently would be Striker. Which brings me onto my next point.
