Southampton: Saints get sliced odds on signing Bobby Reid
By Chris Hughes
One betting site has offered Mauricio Pellegrino’s side good odds on signing the Bristol City forward.
The Saints are in desperate need of fresh reinforcement in January, having won just four league games so far this season.
Southampton are without star striker Charlie Austin until at least next month after he was injured just before Christmas, meaning some new attacking players must be a priority for Les Reed this January.
Having already been linked with Theo Walcott, Nico Gaitan and Guido Carillo among others, bookmakers Ladbrokes are now offering odds as low at 7/4 for the Saints to sign Bristol City forward Bobby Reid
The 24-year-old Englishman is the Championship’s joint-third leading scorer with 12 goals to his name. The high-flying side are just two points off the league’s automatic-promotion places, having also developed a cult following on social media through their hilarious GIFs.

On a personal level Reid is enjoyable his most lucrative season as a footballer having made the shift from midfield to attack. Last campaign Reid finished with a career-high four league goals but this time he has 14 already.

The forward also has three league assists to his name, meaning he’s been directly involved in just over a third of Bristol City’s goals so far this season. His stock will have only risen after scoring in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester City earlier this week.
However, Southampton – if interested – face stiff competition for the attacker, with fellow Premier League sides West Ham, Leicester City, West Brom and Newcastle all linked with the pacey striker.
Southampton fans are not overly convinced that Monaco’s Guido Carillo – who has been linked with an £18 million move to the south coast – is the man to lead the Saints’ line. On the face of it, a signing from the Championship might not be the most ambitious move, but with Reid’s value on Transfermarkt as low as £750,000, it might be a worthwhile investment.
With that being said, it would make logical sense that the playoff-bound City would expect much more than that to part with their marquee forward. Whatever happens, Southampton supporters will be hoping that the club start to conclude some deals sooner rather than later.
