Goalkeeper and defence

7. McCarthy drew that start again over Fraser Forster, and continues to display better handling.  Very good on crosses and balls over head.  Maybe could have closed out Doucoure sooner on the equalizer.. Goalkeeper. Southampton. ALEX MCCARTHY

Southampton. CEDRIC SOARES. 5. It was great to see Cedric back in the lineup, but rust was to be expected.  His first touch was off today, and he still is not providing the service required from the right side.. Right full-back

Centre-back. Southampton. JACK STEPHENS. 7. Stephens may have started because Yoshida is dealing with a hamstring problem.  Was solid all game, and shows poise passing out of the back.  Not sure how long he is going to get away with some of the shoves he throws into attacker’s backs.  May have to answer to a cheap shot he gave to a Watford player to slow a counter-attack.

8. Hoedt was really strong in his return from a concussion.  The second half he was put to the test dealing with physical players such as Deeney and Okaka.  Proved most likely #1 centre-back in the side when fit.. Centre-back. Southampton. WESLEY HOEDT

6.5. Bertrand did not impact the game a ton, but was very good on the defensive end.  Made a huge block on a sure goal early in the second half.  Missed a few opportunities to provide service to Shane Long, and he knew it.. Left full-back. Southampton. RYAN BERTRAND
