With just a week of the transfer window remaining and no deals completed as of yet, Southampton are still hopeful they can conclude a £50 million raid for two players.
The stars in question – Guido Carrillo of Monaco and Quincy Promes of Spartak Moscow – have been the only two players consistently linked with the Saints since the side lost out on Theo Walcott.
The Daily Echo are reporting that Southampton are still very much in the hunt for the two men, with the Saints in dire of attacking reinforcements.
A deal for Carrillo seemed like it was in it’s final stages before suddenly being reported as dead in the water, with Monaco not interested in selling the striker who worked under Mauricio Pellegrino back in Argentina.
But the Saints remain keen on the six-foot-two forward, believing that he will not only offer another dimension up top but put an end to Southampton’s goal-scoring woes with Charlie Austin injured.
A deal for Promes meanwhile remains as a potentially record deal for the Saints. The Dutch winger is keen on a move to Premier League, putting Southampton in good stead despite being in the relegation zone.

The Spartak winger, who has scored every other game over the course of his career, would command a fee of at least £30 million, due to his valued status at the Russian club. His contract lasts until 2021.
Whilst neither two players would of been the supporters’ first choice options for this transfer window, both players, particularly Promes, seem like excellent additions.
Carrillo’s goal record isn’t particularly flattering but much like Manolo Gabbiadini this season, the Monaco forward has had to deal with limited minutes behind Falcao.
Whilst the report also notes that the board are still firmly behind the Argentine Pellegrino and backing him rather than sacking him, there is no mention of a new centre-back. Southampton may still have Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens and Wesley Hoedt, but Virgil van Dijk’s departure has left a huge void at the back.
