Stephens scored the only goal of the game and his first for the club to put Saints through on his 24th birthday.

He was the first players to react to the loose ball following Ryan Bertrand’s dangerous free-kick in fourth minute, and his celebration showed what it meant to him to score.

After a few shaky performances, this showing was certainly a more composed one from the 24-year-old as he tries to match the excellent form that he managed last season.
