Defended very well today, and is growing in confidence every game he starts.  Very comfortable on the ball, but had a few sloppy give-aways late.  The better of the two centre-backs in this match.. Centre-back. Southampton. JACK STEPHENS. 7

5. Was at fault for both goals tonight.  Flat out missed a clearance tracking back for the opening goal.  Then broke an ABC of defending chasing the ball and not following Mo Salah on the combination that led to the second.  Yes, his midfielders allowed the penetrating pass, but his first step toward Firmino left Salah all alone.  Saved himself with some positive 1v1 defending on the Egyptian in the second half.. Bertrand just hasn’t looked himself since his hamstring troubles.  Is still getting forward, but his crossing is routinely missing its target.  Had one or two connections with Tadic and Boufal on the left, but probably was given the most space out of any Southampton attacker, and did nothing with it..
