 Midfielders

Southampton. MARIO LEMINA. 6. After his monstrous display in the FA Cup I was hoping for another Mario Lemina masterclass but the former Juventus man was outnumbered by Burnley’s three man midfield which restricted his impact on the game. He was still combative and played some neat stuff, his form will be crucial in the upcoming games and to wether Southampton can survive this season.. Defensive-Midfield

7. The Spaniard was one of Saints better players, he made some crucial first half blocks and won back possession on numerous occasions. Solid and composed in the centre of the park, its nothing less than we’ve become accustom too. Did he warrant his selection over Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg, not for me.. Defensive-Midfield. Southampton. ORIOL ROMEU

Its been a strong start to 2018 for Ward-Prowse, he has been one of the few positives of late, with an increase of his effectiveness in front of goal, both supplying and scoring chances. His set piece delivery always makes him a threat but against Burnley he offered very little, he drifted in and out of the game and like Cedric behind him, struggled to cause Burnley’s left hand side any real problems. He was replaced by Josh Sims in the 68th minute and understandably so.. Right-Midfield. Southampton. JAMES WARD-PROWSE. 5

Southampton. DUSAN TADIC. 6. The Serb, as too often, drifted in and out of the game. He showed a few glimpses of quality and was denied by a combination of Ben Mee and Tom Pope in Southampton’s only real chance in the first half. He linked up well with Gudio Carillo at times but didn’t really create anything of note in a rather dour attacking display from the Saints.. Attacking-Midfield

Left-Midfield. Southampton. NATHAN REDMOND. 6. In his first Premier League start since boxing day Redmond was probably the best of the three behind Guido Carillo, after some errant passing, including several forced cross field balls early in the game, he settled.  He had one or two good moments including a burst past several Burnley defenders to deliver a dangerous low cross, it is moments like these that he needs to produce more often. Redmond is at his best when direct and running at pace, hopefully that comes with more confidence and game time.
