8. He was only on the field for 22 minutes but was still Saints best player. He brought pace and directness to Southampton’s right flank and managed to cause Stephen Ward more problems than Ward-Prowse managed in the previous 68. He would have scored with a lovely curled effort if not for a fabulous Tom Pope save, tipping the ball onto the upright. Boufal didn’t have a major impact on the game but won several free kicks in the opposing half. He was unlucky not to start after some good performances recently.

In my opinion unfairly marginalised and the victim of being playing as an isolated lone striker, Gabbiadini produced a moment of quality and proved that given the opportunities he is probably Saints most accomplished forward. With Carrillo supplying the assist many will be calling for the two to play together, for both Napoli and Italy Gabbiadini has played in a support striker role and this is where i would like to see him deployed.. 3rd Substitute.
