Goalkeepers and defenders

6.5. As Saints players go, Macca had one of the better games despite conceding three – he made a smart save for Arnautovic’s first and was unfortunate that the ball rebounded to the Austrian. Wasn’t helped by his defence.. Goalkeeper. Southampton. ALEX MCCARTHY

CEDRIC SOARES. 4. Cedric had one his poorest games of the season in Southampton red, failing to deal with threats down the right when Marko Arnautovic drifted over to that side – this was evident during the second goal.. Right-back. Southampton

JACK STEPHENS. 4. Stephens had a better game than his defensive partner but his performance was far from satisfactory. His fragility in the air was exploited by a physical Hammers side.. Centre-back. Southampton

3.5. Hoedt had a really poor game for Southampton and his defending for the third goal was particularly bad. After a solid start, it’s been a tricky month or two for the Dutchman and he needs to pick himself up.. Centre-back. Southampton. WESLEY HOEDT

4. Bertrand had another game in which he looked pretty disinterested. He offered little going forward and had he busted a gut to get back, could’ve perhaps intercepted Kouyate’s pass to Joao Mario’s for West Ham’s first.. Left-back. Southampton. RYAN BERTRAND
