West Ham 3-0 Southampton: Three key players
By Chris Hughes
Alex McCarthy
Despite conceding three times, Alex McCarthy had a respectable afternoon in goal – there was nothing he really could’ve done to stop Mario’s strike from the edge of the box.
The English goalie made a decent stop for Arnautovic’s first saving the Austrian’s initial header well, and was unlucky that the rebound fell straight to the controversial forward.
For their third, McCarthy wasn’t helped as Hoedt failed to tightly mark the lively Arnautovic, and therefore watched the ball drop out of the sky and straight on the his foot. Granted, the ball from Arthur Masuaku was inch-perfect, but McCarthy in goal wasn’t helped by his defence once again.
Of a bad bunch, the Englishman’s performance was one of the better ones.
