Midfielders

Romeu has been uncharacteristically sloppy in a few of Saints recent games and has partially lost the reliable head that he used to be in midfield. A compact Chelsea midfield limited the space that he and Hojbjerg had to work in. One moment of bad play from the Spaniard almost gave Chelsea the lead. He lost the ball poorly in the opposite half and the Blues sprung on a counter attack, with Willian’s shot onto the crossbar ending a blistering break and emphasising what Saints were up against.. Central-Midfield. Southampton. ORIOL ROMEU. 5

4. Brought into create a solid looking midfield three that could support the strikers but showed nothing like his early season form. Strolled around for most of the game and angered some Saints fans by standing off the pitch, giving up the ball and not chasing back on one occasion. After dropping out of the side, this should have been his opportunity to show that he cares and is up for the fight, but nothing emerged from his performance to show this at all.. Central-Midfield. Southampton. MARIO LEMINA

Southampton. PIERRE-EMILE HOJBJERG. 6. Like Romeu, denied the space to influence the midfield too much but looked to drive forward when he could. Unlucky to be withdrawn for Tadic after an hour but the team needed more width in attack.. Central-Midfield
