Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu has begged the Saints’ supporters to get behind the players ahead of their must-win game this weekend.

The Saints remain four points clear of safety with four games remaining, and whilst their campaign concludes which a match against champions Manchester City, they have three very winnable games between now and then.

The first of said trio is a home game against AFC Bournemouth this weekend, with the Cherries currently 11th and all-but safe for another season in the Premier League. The Saints will hope this means that the away players may not be 100% focused, by Eddie Howe will be drumming that into his players this week.

With Swansea facing the task of overcoming Chelsea, the Saints could very realistically get within a point of safety this weekend, and Romeu has called for the supporters to get behind the team.

"“It’s the most important game of the season. Every one of them is important for us to stay up. We want to give everything. We don’t want to look to the past and say we’ve left something in the dressing room.“It’s important that we get that connection between us and the fans, so we can push onto together and get the points we need.”"

With one of the Saints’ remaining matches coming against the Swans, Mark Hughes will be very aware that if Southampton can better the Welsh side’s results over the next fortnight and then dispatch of them when the two meet, his side could do the unbelievable and avoid the drop.

More from Saints Marching

But with the match against Everton a much trickier one than Eddie Howe’s Cherries, the Saints will know of the magnitude of their task this weekend. In front of a St. Mary’s crowd and in a media-dubbed derby, the tensions are bound to be high.

Supporters have often got on the players’ backs when they fall behind, and whilst their frustrations are understandable, the fans need to get behind their players and push them over the finish line this weekend. Romeu went on to acknowledge how the side have showed obvious improvements since the West Ham defeat.

"“We were conceding too many goals before, that’s the why the manager changed it so we had more defenders.“It’s been working quite well. We conceded goals against Arsenal and Chelsea but we were competing against them, having a better feeling – the last league game we had a clean sheet.”"

Romeu’s performance levels have dropped this season in comparison to the campaign last year but he’ll know he has to produce a stellar performance in midfield this Saturday to shut down the fluid passing that Bournemouth like to break down opponents with.

Southampton vs. Bournemouth kicks off this Saturday at 3:00PM.
