Southampton: Saints reportedly intersted in Pione Sisto
By Chris Hughes
Reports last night have suggested that Southampton will re-ignite their interest in Pione Sisto, who currently plies his trade with Celta Vigo in Spain.
According to the Scottish Sun, the Saints are considering a summer move for the winger assuming they stay in the Premier League – something they have much more a chance of following the win against Bournemouth at the weekend.
The young Dane has been impressing with a Celta side who are enjoying a difficult campaign sitting in 11th, despite the goals of Iago Aspas and Maxi Gomez.
Sisto himself only has five goals to his name but leads his side with nine assists, an impressive tally for someone playing for a mid-table side.
Southampton had previously been linked with the Dane a few years ago, back during his days playing in his native country with FC Midtjylland. The Saints were pipped to his signature by Celta, who spent £4 million on the now-23-year-old..

The deal that took him to Spain saw his contract contain a £36 million release clause, but the report yesterday suggests that Celta would be willing to sell the winger for just half of that.

Assuming the Saints do the impossible and manage to survive, Sisto does seem like a great addition to the side, with Southampton desperate for depth in pace out wide.
Both Sofiane Boufal and Nathan Redmond have struggled for consistent form all campaign and with Sisto proving himself in a competitive league there’s no denial that he’d start further up the pecking order than the two orthodox wingers currently in the club’s ranks.
The Saints were crying out for a new one last summer and many thought they had found that in Patrick Roberts, only for the Englishman to chose a second season in Scotland rather than test himself in the Premier League.
£18 million remains a steep figure regardless but if the Saints do stay up they need a solid summer recruitment-wise and with a lot of deadwood to shift and the Virgil van Dijk money still sitting warm, the club should have plenty of resources to bring in the kind of players that can get them back up into the top half and challenging for European football once more.
