Goalkeeper and defence:

8. Once again, McCarthy was brilliant in between the sticks. Being decisive with plucking crosses from the sky and covering most Everton attempts, the keeper was solid. His stand out moment, however, was his world-class save to tip away Leighton Baines’ free-kick in injury time. Unfortunately, Alex did concede after an unlucky deflection went out of his reach but the man is in outstanding form!. Goalkeeper. Southampton. ALEX MCCARTHY

7.5. Cedric did well against Everton at the back, looking solid for most of the game, especially in the first half. The right-back’s stand out moment of course was putting in the cross for Nathan Redmond’s goal, a delicious whipped ball into the back post. However, you could say that the Portuguese could’ve put in more of a challenge against Gueye who put in the ball for Tom Davies’ equaliser but overall he was solid.. Right-back. Southampton. CEDRIC

7. Bednarek looked good once again at the back and made some decisive challenges. His addition to the team has been a breath of fresh air and the young man who looked like a waste of money at the beginning of the season against Wolves has come on leaps and bounds since then and we should definitely look at having him in around the first team next season (not regularly starting of course), especially if we do go down.. Center-back. Southampton. JAN BEDNAREK

6.5. Hoedt wasn’t awful against Everton and did make some good challenges. However, there were some misplaced passes and, unluckily, the Dutchman was the one who got in the way of Davies’ shot to deflect it past his own keeper. On the whole though, he did do his job and kept Everton quiet for the majority of the game.. Center-back. Southampton. WESLEY HOEDT

Center-back. Southampton. MAYA YOSHIDA. 6. Like the other two defenders, Yoshida did look solid and rather comfortable at the back, especially in the first half where Everton really weren’t at the races. However, the red card does lower the Japanese man’s rating, even though the first yellow card shouldn’t have been given!

RYAN BERTRAND. 7. Overall, Bertrand was solid against Everton and did what he needed to do defensively. The England man also made some decent runs down the left flank which we expect to see from the left-back. The only fault you could credit him with is not putting the ball out just before Everton’s equaliser, however full time should’ve been blown for by then anyway.. Left-back. Southampton
