Striker and substitutes

Striker. Southampton. CHARLIE AUSTIN. 5.5. Up front Austin was always going to find chances hard to come by against City – he still managed two shots in the hour he played before being subbed off at the same time as Redmond. His end of season hasn’t been as impressive but after the West Ham loss it’s only fair for Hughes to set up more defensively

First substitute. Southampton. SHANE LONG. 5. Shane Long had a fairly dull 27 minutes on the pitch – he chased the ball as he always does but failed to have a shot on goal and much like the majority of the Saints’ players, his involvement was limited.

Second substitute. Southampton. JAMES WARD-PROWSE. 5.5. JWP came on at the same time as Long but City were dominating play at this point so he didn’t affect the game very much. Hasn’t been as good in the past few weeks as he was at the start of the year.

N/A. McQueen came on with less than ten minutes to go, meaning there wasn’t enough time for him to have a great affect on proceedings.. Third substitute. Southampton. SAM MCQUEEN
