Jerome Roussillion (Montpellier)

The final man to make my list is Frenchman Jerome Roussillon. I’ve included him because whilst Matt Targett and Sam McQueen have potential, I believe than when Ryan Bertrand inevitably leaves this summer we’d need a proper replacement and the Montpellier full-back would be a great choice.

At 25 he is still young but far from inexperienced, having made just shy of 100 appearances since joining from fellow French outfit Sochaux three years ago.

Whilst not quite ever-present, Roussillon featured in 22 league games last term, contributing to six goals whilst also being part of a back-line which kept 14 clean sheets over the course of the Ligue 1 campaign.

Pacey, direct and with a good cross, the Montpellier man seems like a straight swap for the out-going Bertrand, with the latter having looked disinterested this season. What works in Southampton’s favour is that Roussillon’s current contract expires in just over a year, meaning he could be available at a cut-price.
