The new Southampton kits for the 2018/19 season have been confirmed and received a mixed reception from Saints supporters.

The club and kit designer Under Armour have chosen to return to the traditional Southampton style of red and white stripes following this year’s copy of a 1980s strip.

It’s fair to say that the home shirt has not gone down well, with the Under Armour logo placed awkwardly and a strange look overall.

A pleasing factor from the announcement is the return to yellow and blue for the away kit. These colours proved very popular in the Championship and in past FA Cup finals that the club played in.

The club is also due to release a third kit for sale to fans, and it could be a similar style to the predominantly white strip worn a few times over the past two campaigns.

The announcement was given in a nice way with Saints legends Matt Le Tissier and Francis Benali managing two local kids teams from Romsey and Littleton for a match between the two kits.

Comedian and Saints fan Tom Deacon was also involved and all three of him, Benali and Le Tissier had performed in a video yesterday hinting at what the announcement could include.

Images of the designs were leaked last week after they were put on sale on various Under Armour stores online and fans quickly made their minds up about whether they liked them or not.

The home and goalkeeper kits are now available to pre-order via the club’s main website, whilst the release of the away strip is delayed.

Saints fans will be able to see their team play in the new kits throughout pre-season, and yesterday the club confirmed two home friendlies at the beginning of August against Celta Vigo and Borussia Mochengladbach.
